Children learn best when they are fully immersed in their education which is reflected in our child-led approach

At New Stepping Stones there is time to play, space to explore and freedom to choose. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The Early Years Foundation Stage is a statutory framework that is fully embedded in all aspects of nursery life.

Our educational programme allows children to experience quality learning and development opportunities, from the day a child starts until the day we say goodbye. The New Stepping Stones Educational Programme includes allocated time for children to partake in physical movement sessions, science and exploration opportunities, art, drama, mathematical and literacy daily challenges and cooking…plus many more!

We provide all children with a firm foundation on which to build future academic and social and emotional success. We use a play-based approach following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning framework set by Ofsted (see here).

We don't constrict ourselves to one approach but rather prefer to tailor aspects to suit each unique child’s imagination and curiosity. We use the outdoors as a powerful open-ended setting filled with natural resources. Hence we draw a lot from ‘Forest School’ methods which are set up to allow children to lead with their innate curiosity.

Our teacher to child ratio is 1:5 for children aged over 2 until 5. We offer a combination of groups, split by a child’s interest and age range and mixed groups where different child ages are mixed together. This means children get a necessary amount for educator support and are able to watch and learn through others at different learning stages. As your child gets older with us they are able to take lead in supporting younger children around them. This helps to build your child’s confidence and cognitive flexibility.
